"We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of the dream."
8BIT LIVE IN 1996, Brooklyn, NY
8Bit began publishing hardcore techno and noize at the age of 16. Early in 1994 he signed to Digital Hut records and released multiple records and appeared on many compilations. By 1997 had started directing music-videos for Atomic Babies and Frankie Bones (both of which aired on MTVs late night techno show - AMP). EIGHTBIT.COM, no longer just an archive has since become the online manifestation for a growing force that cannot be limited to its latter purpose. Now we are a creative podium for artists and musicians of all types from traditional to electronic to the new wave of circuit benders.
ORIGINS OF THE NAME 8BIT
EIGHTBIT.COM functions mainly as an archive for the growing creative portfolio of Cihan Kaan, who was named 8Bit after an all-night Frankie Bones Brooklyn outlaw (the notorious STORM RAVES), circa 1993. When Oliver Chesler (aka The Horrorist/Temper Tantrum/Disintergrator ) heard an early demo he created entirely on the Amiga 500 he mentioned something about it sounding extremely, "...8Bit".

COMMODORE
AMIGA 500
The Original 8Bit Techno Box
Unbenounced to Mr. Chelsler, the musician in question had sampled, manipulated and arranged the entire mixdown using the 8Bit outputs of the ancient 68000 Amiga box. Thus the name and music began.
8BIT
MUSIC VIDEOS AND FILM
The production company,
8Bit Productions, actually began when Cihan Kaan, working
with the Atomic Babies label Brooklyn Music Ltd providing synchronized visuals to accompany
the bands live show. After many such shows in and around the New York
Area, it had come time for techno music to mature out of its underground.
The dawn of the new techno had begun - car commercials and corporate presentations
began to use jungle and breakbeat to highlight their lavish consumer messages
and MTV replaced Liquid Television with AMP; a groundbreaking one hour
of independant film and video mixing to techno. Cihan "8Bit" Kaan would then
begin creating the Atomic Babies video once again on an Amiga this time
using the 8-bit processes for video interleaving. In time the projects
and the company grew and 8Bit Productions became Landbridge Massive Pictures, a film company currently on its third film.
LEGENDARY 8BIT
LABZ IN ROCKAWAY BEACH

The space is rumored to have been where the RAMONES recorded Rockaway Beach. It was modestly equipped with synths, drum machines,
racks, DATs, a multitrack recording system, TAMA drumset, acoustic and
electric guitar, bass, and phat Mackie monitors and lots of little gizmos, gadgets and home-made music machines before being smashed to pieces after a Qi-Gong excercise gone horribly wrong.

EVOLUTION
AND THE "8BIT ALLIANCE"
Alliances have been formed through the years with other equally talented
individuals thus making the 8Bit entity a group effort. Unlike the Borg,
we are not a faceless automated mechanism whose sole purpose is
to breed and cause havok, however, we do like cohorts and especially those
that want to collaborate. The 8Bit Alliance was formed out of a
need to accomodate and unite the multitudes of electronic musicians and
other techno enthusiasts who expressed a passionate and committed
interest in all forms of current electronic art. Inherently the
Alliance is a musical force focusing on collaboration and distribution
through live performance and global distribution however we have a variety
of unrelated disciplines locked down like film production, interactive
multimedia and live visual mixes. (www.protoactive.com).
